How to Deal With A Difficult Boss.

Updated: Jun 13, 2018

Are you currently struggling with working for a boss who communicates ineffectively and causes negative emotions to arise in you? There is an expectation of leadership mastery that comes along with the role of being a boss and poor communication skills can erode the productivity and trust of the employees very quickly. Many bosses are never trained in leadership, they may be brilliant in their industry yet lack the very skills necessary to run a great company. The first tip to deal with your difficult boss is to eliminate your expectation of them having the skills to help you do your job better and understand they are human with a higher level of responsibility and most likely don't possess the skills to handle this responsibility. If you treat your boss with empathy and you yourself begin to model leadership skills you will create a pleasant work environment and empower those around you. Empathy is the capacity to understand what another is feeling and put yourself in their shoes. To start using empathy effectively:

1. Put aside your viewpoint and try to see things from their point of view.

2. Validate the other person's perspective.

3. Examine your attitude.

4. Listen

5. Ask what the other person would do.
